Getting in the groove & adventures in swimming

Hey There,
Really trying to get into the groove of things
Been a bit of a struggle the last two weeks but it is finally coming around.

However just when you think it is all settled my left knee which has been a little sore has now really flared up. So it looks like I am going to have to do a little rehab.

Adventures in swimming!
I wanted to relate my Sunday night swim at West Vancouver Aquatic Centre.
When I showed up there was 4-5 people in the fast lane and only two of them had goggles, of which, I would think is a minimum for any moderate swimmer. I thought that was a little odd. Then one dude with no goggles was doing breastroke basically up the middle of the lane and going so slow I was doing 50m to his 25m. Well after a warm up I started a kick set and some guy in his 50’s with board shorts and no goggles jumps in and waits until I am almost at the wall to turn. He then sprints as hard as he can for 25m and stops. (By then end he was looking a little weary) I am kicking and almost catch him when he turns around after really gasping for air and sees I am there he starts on his way back and I can quickly see that he is quickly running out of steam. I almost catch him by the end if the length at which he looks like he was having a seizure his stroke was so crazy and inefficient. jumps out of the water and proceeds to gasp for air for a few minutes on the pool deck not unlike a fish out of water (although in this case the fish wasn’t that good of a swimmer.)

Are these the same people that get on the highway and drive in the fast lane (left hand lane) and do no even go the speed limit. Is the first swim they have done since teenagers. Although it now happens all the time I always find January is the worse month for this as people who have not been active get in the pool.

I think it is great that they are out and participating. I just find it hard to comprehend their thought process. How and why do they completely overestimate their abilities? This perplexes me a bit.

Back to pool for some more workouts and secret curses at the odd swimmer that is in the wrong lane.
